Agents Heterogeneity in Cellular Models of Pedestrian Flow

Pavel Hrabák, 28 Feb 2022

Cellular models play an important role among microscopic models of pedestrian evacuation dynamics. Despite their simplicity cellular models are able to reproduce key phenomena of evacuating pedestrian crowd, such as clogging, lane formation, faster-is-slower effect, and others. The presentation aims to briefly explain the path from cellular automata and interacting particle systems over simple bionics-inspired floor-field models to state-of-the-art cellular models of pedestrian dynamics. The focus is given on various concepts of heterogeneity in the population, introducing some concepts of heterogeneity in evacuation strategies, conflict solution and their implication to evacuation time or bottleneck flow.
